Shake, Rattle and Roll: Early Learning Drop in Baby Program in Brampton

What is Shake, Rattle and Roll Early Learning Program?

Shake, Rattle and Roll: Early Learning Drop in Baby Program in Brampton

Shake, Rattle and Roll is a early learning drop in program for babies aged 0-18 months, however I say the best age is anytime after 6 months. Shake, Rattle and Roll is a program that offers exploration of toys and promotes early learning of literacy skills through songs, movement and story telling. You get to meet other parents and just chat while babies are able to play with toys that develop gross motor and fine motor skills. The program is run at Fortino’s by two amazing staff Heather and Katherine.  They are always welcoming and take the time to get to know each family. The environment is judgement free and encourages that fed is best whether it be formula or breast milk. Check out the whole list of 52 Activities to do on Maternity Leave.

What activities are included in the program this early years program

This drop in program offers both structured and unstructured activities during the program. The program provides new parents with a place to connect with other families in the area. Shake, Rattle and Roll allows children  to engage in early learning by exploring, playing, reading, and singing which supports growth and development.

UNSTRUCTURED: The program begins with multiple centers set up in the room to intrigue children to play. One area offers children who are crawling and walking the opportunity to climb and play on foam equipment. Another area offers children to play with toys that encourage fine motor skills such as grasping, and lastly is the book nook that provides many board books for children to chew or parents to read. Heather changes out the toys and activities weekly, so the room never looks the same two weeks in a row.

Parachute Play during Structured Time

STRUCTURED: The last half hour is more structured at the facilitator leads activities such as parachute, songs, or exploration of instruments. The facilitators sing the same songs each week so you learn them and can sing them at home with baby as well.  The facilitators sing fun songs such as Sally the Camel, The Little Green Frog, and She Didn’t Dance, and many more. Singing and clapping to the beat of the songs teaches babies vocabulary, sound awareness and basic language skills – such as talking and reading later on. Children also learn musical skills such as rhythm, beat and pitch.
