Easy Snacks for Road Trips for Kids and the containers to help keep your car from becoming a mess! #momtrust

My car was never spotless before I had kids, but once they came along it was quickly filled with car seats, toys, blankets, emergency supplies of diapers and more.  And oh the snacks – crackers, cheerios and other finger foods getting into places that I never even thought of!  We recently bought a new minivan (yes I am a minivan mama now!) and I am determined to keep it clean, or at least less messy, than our last car.  Within a week of getting our van we had already headed out on 2 road trips, one to Wasaga Beach and another to London, Ontario.  Of course the staple for any road trip is the snacks!  Here are some easy snacks for road trips and the containers that will help keep your car clean during the driveHealthy Easy Snacks for Road Trips

Here are my favourite easy snacks for road trips

  • Chopped veggies like carrots, red peppers or celery
  • Cheese cut into cubes
  • Bite sized fruit like sliced grapes and apple slices
  • Homemade mini muffins
  • Cereal or Granola
  • Pretzels
  • Dried Fruit such as banana chips, raisins or cherries
  • Trial Mix
  • Popcorn
  • Homemade Granola Bars

How to store snacks for road trips to avoid spills and messes

Drinks – Pick a spill proof cup that wont leak all over the place if it happens to get turned upside down or dropped.  Stay away from juice boxes as a little extra squeeze, specially when they are newly opened, can mean a big mess.  My cup of choice when we are out with the boys is the Playtex Anytime Straw cup – they know how to open and close the cover for the straw, and we have never had a leak with these cups.  They also fit perfect in the cup holders so there are no tipping spills when they are not being used.

Finger foods – having a container that the kids can easily hold on to and won’t spill is a must.  The Playtex Flip Top Twist n’ Click Snacker offers an easy to hold handle and a covered opening that allows a child to reach in to get snacks without them ending up all over the floor.  There is a spot to label the container with your child’s name, and my favourite feature is the lid.  The Playtex Flip Top Twist n’ Click Snacker has a lid that is attached to the cup, so you never lose it, and it helps keep snacks fresh.  When it is snack time, just flip the lid to the bottom of the container and munch away!

Larger snacks – For snacks like raw veggies or cheese cubes I like to dole those out myself to make sure that the kids are not stuffing their mouths full.  With my boys is not uncommon for them to stuff their cheeks like chipmunks!  I use the Playtex Twist n’ Click bowls.  They are large enough to hold a good amount of snacks for 2-3 kids and the twist n’ click lid means no leaks.
