Ingredients

  • 9 inch double crust pie pastry
  • 8 cups thinly sliced apples
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • dash of salt
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  • Make the pie crust. Line a 9 inch pie plate with the bottom crust. Roll out the top crust and set aside.

  • Peel, core and thinly slice the apples. Pour the flour and sugar mixture over the apples and gently combine until the apples are coated.
  • Place the apples into the lined pie plate. Arrange the apples so that they neatly fit into the pie plate. Cut small cubes of butter and evenly place over the apples.
  • Carefully center the top crust over the apples. Fold the edges of the crust under and pinch to seal.
  • Decorate top crust however desired. Cut a few slits or pierce the top crust. Lightly sprinkle with sugar. Cover the edges of the crust with tinfoil.
  • Place pie onto a cookie sheet and bake for 45 minutes. After the first 30 minutes remove the tinfoil. Once the crust is a nice golden brown and the filling is bubbling it is done. Cool for 30 minutes and serve warm.
