Tips for Pre-Pregnancy Planning

Growing up who talked to you about fertility?  And I am not talking about sex ed naming of body parts or the mechanics of getting a sperm and egg together.  Who talked to you about factors that affect fertility, rates of infertility, and how easy (or not) it may be to start a family when you are ready to try.  I think most people will answer no one.  You learn about sex in school, but rarely do they cover fertility and when is the last time you chatted with your girl friends and coworker about fertility rates.  Fertility is a taboo topic for many, and there is a general lack of knowledge and awareness around the subject.

When Hubs and I talked about starting a family I was worried that I would have trouble getting pregnant due to my irregular cycles.  I even went to far as to start reading up on taking basal body temperature, and other methods to track ovulation.  It turns out that for us, that even with irregular cycles we were blessed 3 children.

There are so many myths about conception, fertility and timing, it can be hard to know the truth.  FIRST RESPONSE™ is trying to raise awareness around fertility facts.  For all couples trying to conceive, there are some general guidelines to consider:

  • 30% get pregnant within the first cycle (about one month)
  • 59% get pregnant within three cycles (about three months)
  • 80% get pregnant within six cycles (about six months)
  • 85% get pregnant within 12 cycles (about one year)
  • 91% get pregnant within 36 cycles (about three years)
  • 93-95% get pregnant within 48 cycles (about four years)frist response positive pregnancy test

If you are ready to conceive, here are some important steps to take to make getting pregnant as seamless as possible.

1) Start with a pre-pregnancy trip to a trusted doctor. Your doctor should be able to discuss the most important topics when it comes to conceiving, like menstrual cycle timing and regularity, parents’ medical history, exercise, eating habits and more. Having a good picture of your medical history in this area can give you the most ideal timing for your personal cycle.

2) Understand your peak fertile days. This is one of the reason talking to your doctor is important. If your cycle is longer or shorter than a typical 285 day cycle it can effect which days are you peak ones to get pregnant. Knowing your most fertile days, can help speed up the pregnancy and planning process.  You can also take your planning a step further and figure out your peak days using the FIRST RESPONSE™ Digital Ovulation Predictor Test. It is over 99% accurate for detecting a woman’s personal luteinizing hormone (LH) surge, giving an easy and accurate way to determine the two days a month when each woman is most likely to ovulate, and help you maximize your chances of getting pregnant.

3) Lead a healthy and happy lifestyle. We can sometimes start to get stressed out about the whole business of getting pregnant and the longer it takes the worse it can become. Reducing stress is an important element of fertility as stress can cause irregular ovulation and can disrupt a woman’s menstrual cycle. Simple changes like getting more sleep, and spending extra time with friends and family can do wonders for the body, mind and spirit.Tips for Pre-Pregnancy Planning

I do wish that everyone had an easy time getting pregnant, it must be so stressful when things don’t work out as planned. Some good tips here to help out with making things easier hopefully.

  3. I had unexplained infertility and I did manage to conceive with an IUI and suffered a miscarriage, I did get pregnant narurally 2 years later bit it was an emotional Rollercoaster and it was lonely. Many insensitive comments andI wouldnt wish it on anyone . I am now blessed with a spirited girl who will be two on Dec 22

  4. I actually used this test when I was trying to get pregnant with baby number two. My first took exactly one year to conceive and I didn’t want to wait a year again to conceive so I used this test. I used it for one month and I got pregnant! AMAZING! My husband and I have two wonderful little boys now.
