If there was one highlight of our whole trip to Philadelphia it was our visit to the Adventure Aquarium. Although not technically in Philadelphia located directly across the river in Camden, New Jersey this is a must visit attraction when in the area. I could have spent hours and hours at the aquarium and wished we lived closer for if we did I would have an annual membership for sure. For our trip we had a Philadelphia CityPASS which gained up access to the Adventure Aquarium and many other fun and interesting area attractions.
Heading into the Adventure Aquarium is like stepping into another magical world. Divided up into 4 zones this is an immersive experience like nothing I have every experience before. The Shark Realm offers a 550,000-gallon exhibit with the most stunning views of Sharks you can imagine. Both boys were mesmerized watching the sharks and fish passing by the floor to ceiling “Shark Den” viewing window. Words cannot describe the feeling of being in the Shark Tunnel with 360 degree views of the sharks swimming beside and above you. The Kid Zone was an amazing area geared towards kids 6 and under designed help child learned about the wonders of the natural world. From hands on exhibits that allow children to touch and feel star fish, shrimp and more. Monkey’s favourite part of the Kid Zone was the “pop-up” exhibits where you can crawl underneath the tanks and get the insiders view of a fish tank via a viewing window below.
Traveling as a family with 2 small kids I appreciated the nice wide aisles to accommodate a stroller and a quiet nursing room to feed Little Bear in. But the perfect place to stop for a rest is in the seating area in front of the Ocean Realm. An expansive 760,000 sea water tank featuring stingrays, turtles, and even a few sharks will give you a glimpse into the complex ecosystems that live below the ocean surface.
The Philadelphia CityPass is the perfect way to get access to many of the areas biggest attractions at one low price. With the CityPASS you can visit:
- Adventure Aquarium
- The Franklin Institute
- Philadelphia Trolly Works and Big Bus Company
- Philadelphia Zoo or National Constitutional Center
- Eastern State Penitentiary or Please Touch Museum
Buy your CityPASS in advance of your trip and skip the ticket lines and save time by heading straight to the entrance to start your days outing. Once you start using your pass it is valid for 9 consecutive days and you can visit as many attractions in whatever order you like during this period.
When traveling to Philadelphia visiting the Adventure Aquarium is a must, and with the CityPASS in your pocket you will save 43% on admission to the areas best attractions!
What are you favorite animals to see when you visit an Aquarium?
Disclosure: I was provided with complimentary passes. All opinions are strictly my own.
What a beautiful place! I love to visit aquariums, they are just so peaceful.. I love the photo of Monkey popping up “inside” the tank. How much fun would that be for the kiddos!

I love to watch the fish glide around their tanks–espcially the jelly fish–so soothing from this side anyway!! looks like you had a great time
How fun! And what great pictures! I have always had a love for the ocean and the animals that live in it, so going to see those animals at an aquarium has always been one of my favorite things to do. My favorites are always the jellyfish and any type of tropical fish.
