3-Step Bedtime Routine – Get Ready to Sleep Better

Oh bedtime, how it has changed.  Before children I used to stay up late and wander to bed after 11:00 p.m. every night.  Now, as a mother of two (adorable girls worth every sleepless night I might add) I’m in bed around 9:00 p.m…9:30 if I’m lucky.  There are several reasons for this, the first is babies and children have a lot of energy, and I think they take it all from their parents.  Secondly, they wake up early.  And third – they may wake up once or twice…or more…in the middle of the night.  This can be exhausting and this is where we welcome the JOHNSON’S® 3-Step Bedtime Routine.

My first daughter, Bee, was difficult to put to sleep, but once asleep she rarely woke up.  My second, Wee Bee, is a different story.  She is stubborn to get to sleep and will wake occasionally during the night for comfort.  Recently I was challenged by JOHNSON’S® to try their 3-step clinically proven routine which can help baby fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.  I was very intrigued by this challenge and after receiving some products to help and reading through the 3-step routine I was pleased and eager to give it a try.  Since Wee Bee is just over one year old, she falls right in the middle of the recommended are group of 7-36 months.

The unique 3-step routine is very easy to follow and really does make a difference in the quality of sleep WeeBee has.  Let’s take a look at the steps.
 
Step 1 – Warm Bath.  Adding a warm bath to your bedtime routine will help your baby know it’s time to get ready for sleep.  Using gentle and soothing aromas will help calm baby before bedtime and JOHNSON’S® BEDTIME cleansers excel in this department, these products smell amazing.

Step 2 – Massage.  Who doesn’t feel relaxed after a massage?  A gentle massage as a part of a bedtime routine helps your baby sleep better.  JOHNSON’S® baby lotions not only smell wonderful, but leave your baby’s skin feeling soft and smooth.

Step 3 – Quiet Time.  Help baby settle down for the night by doing some quiet activities such as reading, singing or listening to music.  Not only will this relax your baby and prepare them for sleep, but it is a powerful bonding experience for you both.  
 
The steps are very simple and enjoyable for both you and your baby.  My 3 year old participated in the week long challenge and loved it also.  We are definitely going to keep it going in our house.  JOHNSON’S® has gone one step further in helping baby’s sleep better by creating an easy to use app for your mobile phone.  It has a lot of helpful features from tracking baby’s sleep to ‘ask the expert’.  I have really enjoyed using the app.  My absolute favourite part of the app is the lullabies and ambient sounds.  The lullabies are so gentle and the ambient sounds allow you to create your own sounds.  This is a big help with Step #3 – Quiet time.  Overall, was I impressed by JOHNSON’S® 3-step Bedtime Routine?  Heck yes!  When you put all three steps together and include the app with quiet time the results are amazing.  I would recommend everyone try this routine, even if you have a great sleeper, the bonding time cannot be replaced!

  1. Love it! We have the lotion here, ’cause we need all the help we can get to put 1 1/2 yo OhHenry to sleep sometimes. And you’re right about loving massages. It’s hard to get him to sit in one spot for very long, but bring out the lotion and he’s a puddle of non-moving goo, lol.

  2. I will be trying the massage part. We have all of a sudden been struggling with bedtime and it seems our 3 year old just finds it hard to wind down. Massage will help I am sure. Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. It’s amazing how different sleep patterns can be among different children in the same family. My son was always sleepy and my daughter has rarely liked to nap. I think this 3-part bedtime routine sounds lovely!
