Gluten Free Getaway at Couples Resort

Being gluten-free sounds simple… until date night rolls around!😩🍝

It’s hard watching everyone else dive into warm bread, pasta, or dessert while you’re triple-checking the menu for hidden gluten. Food is such a big part of connection — sharing bites, trying new dishes, clinking glasses over dessert — and sometimes it feels like I’m missing out on those small, cozy moments.

This is where Couples Resort saves the day! Being gluten free isn’t just a diet choice, but is a medical necessity for many whether it be for celiac disease or many other autoimmune conditions. I personally have been gluten free for just over a year, and our household has been mainly gluten free for 2 years as my daughter has celiac. We have quickly learned as a family how difficult it can be to eat in restaurants and find safe gluten free options as there is often a large risk of cross contamination.

The Gluten Free Difference

Whether you need to celebrate or need a rejuvenating break, to indulge in a romantic getaway, Couples Resort in Whitney, Ontario is the perfect option as they cater to a diverse set of dietary needs including vegan, vegetarian, heart smart, gluten free and Celiac Disease.

Couples Resort takes allergies/dietary needs seriously as from the moment you book your stay they ask if you have any food allergies as dinner and breakfast are included in the inclusive price and they want to prepare ahead of time so they can accurately accommodate. They also ask if you have a feather allergy due to the pillows they used which can be switched out as necessary.

Gluten Free Even in The Gift Shop

If you eat gluten free then you know how difficult it can be to find convenience foods that are gluten free even in grocery stores, and gas stations…. it’s your worst nightmare, which is why I always carry GF snacks in my purse. However Couples Resort blew me away right away as in their tiny gift shop they had a section clearly marked as Gluten Free and Vegan and sold a variety of snacks. Snacks included were: Hippie Snacks Banana Crisps, Two Different Varieties of Allergy Smart Cookies, Schar Honey Kissed Cookies, Freeyum Banana Bites, Glutino Cookies, and Walkers Gluten Free Shortbread. They did carry other snacks such as a few chips and chocolates that are also gluten free by ingredient but not certified.

Labelling Gluten Free on Menus

Labeling gluten-free options on a menu is extremely important because it helps ensure the safety and comfort of customers with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities. Clear labeling allows diners to make informed choices quickly and confidently, avoiding the risk of serious health reactions or discomfort.

It also shows that a restaurant values inclusivity and takes dietary needs seriously, which can build trust and attract a wider customer base. Overall, gluten-free labeling is both a health necessity and a mark of professionalism and care in food service.

My waiter also asked immediately about any food allergies and marked down that I was gluten free. At Couples Resort the menu was clearly labelled which made selecting an option super simple. For items such as the Caesar salad or creme Brule that were not labelled gluten free, I simply asked the waiter if it was possible and they went to the kitchen to confirm.
