I knew when we had kids our grocery bill would go up, especially with boys, but I never guessed how quickly it would go up. Monkey is not even 3 and Little Bear still nursing and already our bill has gone up 25%! I can’t even imagine how much we will be spending in 5 years. Knowing what is to come we have started to look at strategies to try to reduce our grocery bill. I have always shopped at Bulk Barn for baking supplies. Their selection of baking ingredients, chocolate confectionery and cake decorating supplies is unrivaled anywhere else. However it was not until we had our family that I really started to shop at Bulk Barn for things other than baking supplies.
Not only does Bulk Barn have isles of great baking supplies, but it is also a great place to shop for snacks for the whole family. We had a huge snow storm last week and I new it would be a watch a movie and cuddle kind of day. The only problem being we didn’t have any snacks in the house. We ventured out in Hubs’ truck to Bulk Barn to pick up snacks for our movie marathon. You can get snacks from chips & pretzels to cheerios & all varieties of trail mix – yum!
We each picked out a snack to take home. Hubs picked wine gums, one if his all time favorite sweet treats. Monkey had a hard time picking from all of the selection, but he finally decided on Cheezies. And what did I get for myself – chocolate covered Banana chips, because it is not a treat to me if it does not have chocolate!
We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening watching Disney movies and eating our tasty snacks. You can see more photos of our shopping adventure here. We also made a snow themed breakfast including pancakes from a mix we picked up at Bulk Barn.
I love that I can often find coupons for Bulk Barn in our local newspaper or directly from the store, which helps keep our grocery costs down even more when bulk shopping. To find a location near you check out the Bulk Barn website, you can also find them on facebook and twitter. But I am warning you now, they share some great recipes that may make you drool. I am still lusting after the homemade peanut cups. Do you shop at Bulk Barn? What is your favorite thing to buy there?

I love finding new places to shop that will help my budget.
Thanks for sharing.
I’ve never shopped there before though.
Wow, looks like a terrific place to shop!
I never heard of bulk barn but looks like a great place to shop!
We don’t have Bulk Barn around here but it looks like an awesome place to shop! Cute snowman!
I love the bulk barn – in fact we just spend $75 there this weekend. We bought all kinds of Valentine treats and baking supplies too. In fact, I am sitting here making up treat bags right now.
Contrary to popular belief, Bulk Barn is not always cheaper than buying products at the grocery store. You really need to know your prices.
Oh I love the Bulk Barn! I agree that I don’t really save any money shopping there but the prices are at least on the reasonable side and I love the variety. You just never know what you’re going to find there!
Oh I do have to add that their cake decorating supplies (including shaped pans) ARE cheaper than pretty much any other place I have found.
It looks like you did an awesome shopping at Bulk Barn! We’ve enjoyed shopping there for years and you can always find their products in our pantry!
