Deciding where to go on a family vacation is a big decision. You want to pick a place where everyone can have fun, enjoy some great food, have a little adventure and of course get in some time to relax. In 2016 I traveled with my Mom and Monkey to the Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort located on the breathtaking Grace Bay. We had an AMAZING vacation and I wanted to share some of the things that my 6 year old loved about this trip. Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort
10 Things Your 6 Year Old Will Go Crazy For At Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort
1 – The Ocean and The Beach
The first thing we did when we arrived at Beaches Turks & Caicos was drop our bags, change into our bathing suits and head to the water. We spent as much time as we could at the ocean swimming, playing, and soaking up the gorgeous weather. The white sand beaches were soft and comfortable to walk on without worrying about needing water shoes or sandals. We packed a few sand toys in our luggage and spent a some time building sand castles. However most of the time Monkey was happy to be swimming in the crystal clear water. The slope of the beach was nice and gradually so there were no surprises when walking out into the water to swim.
2 – Pirates Island Aqua Playground
When Monkey wasn’t at the beach you were likely to find him at the Beaches Turks and Caicos water park. Offering tube slides, body slides, a lazy river, surf simulator and multiple splash pad areas this is a playground for grown ups and kids alike. Monkey and I loved going down the slides together while Grandma appreciated a relaxing trip around the lazy river. Then we were all happy to meet up at the swim up bar to grab a drink before heading back out for some more fun.
3 – Our Suite
Now you might be thinking why would a 6 year old really care about the hotel room you are staying in? Well at Beaches Turks and Caicos they have thought about what it means to travel as a family and help to make it as easy as possible. What does that mean for a 6 year old? It means there were lots of beverage options for him stocked in the fridge including apple, orange and cranberry juice. Our 2 bedroom suite also had a day bed and trundle bed in the living room so that everyone could have their own bed. Oh and did I mention that there is a X-box in the room! For a child who has never played Xbox before Monkey was determined that we give it a try. Lucky for me it was not too tricky to figure out and after a fun filled day swimming and snorkeling we squeezed in a bit of playing time before bed. You can see a full tour of our hotel room in this video below or in our Beaches Turks and Caicos Complete Review:
4 – Sesame Street
Where can you singing along with Abby, bake with Cookie Monster and have breakfast with Elmo? At Beaches Turks and Caicos that’s where! Even at 6 years old Monkey was captivated by the Sesame Street shows that run daily. Plus there multiple activities everyday where you can hang out with the Sesame Street gang, a small taste of the offerings include story time with Elmo, Dancing with Zoe, Super Gover’s Science Fair and Sesame Street Birthday Party. Your daily itinerary deliver right to your door will outline all the fun for the week. And best of all, almost all of the activities are included with your stay. So take part in as many as you want during your stay. The exception to this is the Character Breakfast that is an additional charge. Everyone becomes a kid again with the Sesame Street characters around.
5 – The Kid-friendly Restaurants
Food is an important part of any vacation and Beaches Turks and Caicos goes the extra mile to make eating out with kids easy. Monkey’s favourite restaurant at Beaches was Mario’s and it is easy to see why. With special tables JUST FOR KIDS him and his friends felt very special while the adults were able to enjoy dinner at a full size table right next to them. The sesame characters around the restaurant were a nice touch and the kids enjoyed coloring before dinner. Every restaurant we went to had a kid-friendly meal so your no matter if you have a kid that eats everything or a picky eater there are lots of choices between the main menu and the kids menu.
Another thing that both Monkey and I liked about dining at Beaches Turks and Caicos was that of the 19 restaurants on the property only 1 takes reservations. That means when you are hungry, you go eat. No worrying about or planning around a reservation time you made on the first day of your stay. And there are no limits about were you eat during your stay, you could eat at the same restaurant every night if you wanted. Although I do recommend trying as many places as you can! For more on the different restaurant options you can check out our Beaches Resorts Turks And Caicos Dining Guide
6 – Snorkeling and Water Sports
As if playing in the ocean was not fun enough there are TONS of water sports and activities that are included as part of your stay. One of the highlights of the trip was going snorkeling not once but twice. A short 5 minute boat ride from the resort and you are immersed in a whole other world. I was not sure how Monkey would take to snorkeling as being out in the ocean is a little different then practicing in a pool, but he LOVED it.. The guides and boat captains were friendly and knowledgeable and we were provided with everything we need to have a great time. After a quick fitting for googles, snorkel and flippers we were ready to hit the water. We saw many different types of fish and coral of all shapes and sizes. The pictures just don’t do the beauty of the reefs justice. Who knew my 6 year old would love snorkeling so much we would go out again the very next day. At Beaches Turks and Caicos you can sign up for the snorkeling tours at the Water Sports desk which are included in your stay. Other water sports you can enjoy are sailing, kayaking, water trikes, paddle boards and more.
7 -Glass Bottom Boat Tours
Our first venture out onto he ocean was on the glass bottom boat tour. Like the snorkeling you sign up for the 45 minute glass bottom boat tours at the water sports desk (these boat tours are included in your stay). Monkey loved having “windows” into the ocean. My mom who was with us on the trip is not a great swimmer, so this was the perfect way for all of us to get out on the water together. We not only had the chance see the beautiful reefs from above but on our way back to the hotel we made a small detour to see a giant sting ray resting in the sand. Take a closer look at our adventure below:
8 – Kid Camp
The Beaches Turks and Caicos offers kids camp for infants right up to 17 years old. Kids are divided up based on age and are offered a variety of fun activities all day long. Your child can pop in for a couple of hours or stay the whole day it is up to you. Don’t worry about snack or meal times the friendly camp staff have those covered as well. Crafts, games, x-Box, dances, talent shows, boat cruises, science experiments are just a few of the activities available. Make sure you check out the full schedules so that you won’t miss out on the fun. As a parent I appeciated having the option of dropping the kids off for a bit so that you get some relax time as well. Kids camp is included in your stay at Beaches Turks and Caicos.
9 – Beaches Train
Hop on for a ride around the Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort on the Beaches Train. The train travels in a circuit around the Caribbean, French and Italian Villages with a 5 minute stop at each to let passengers on and off. Monkey really enjoyed taking a loop around the circuit and trying out different cars on the train to sit in. My Mom chatted up the conductor and found out a lot about the beautiful flowers and plants that are found around the resort grounds.
10 – Hammocks
It seemed everywhere you when at the Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort there were areas tucked away were you could sit and relax. Monkey’s favourite were the hammocks and I don’t blame him as they were a great place to stop for a little rest and take in the beautiful scenery around us. The Hammocks were also great places to pause and talk about our activities that we did that day, or what we wanted to do next.
Before we even landed home from our trip to Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort Monkey was already planning our next trip back. And I have to agree with him, we had so much fun at the Beaches Resort I would not hesitate to go back again with our whole family. We have already been talking about another trip with my parents and sister. There is so much to do for everyone of all ages at the resort. Wow this place looks amazing for families. I stumbled on this while doing a bit of holiday window shopping on Google but I’m adding this to my list as I know my three kids would love it.
