The Exploring Family is aware of the diverse culture of our readers and thus has decided to create a list of all local Ramadan celebrations. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion and worship for Muslim people, however anyone is welcome to attend a local Ramadan festival or event.
**Please note Katie and Erin do not celebrate Ramadan – so if any information is incorrect please let us know as we are happy to learn more!**
What is Ramadan?
During the ninth month of the Muslim Calendar and the holy month of Fasting, Muslim people celebrate Ramadan. Ramadan begins and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon. Ramadan is celebrated by 1.8 million people around the world. The end of Ramadan often is celebrated by exchanging Eid gifts, enjoying sweets, and engaging in reflection and prayer. Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and engage in daily prayer, to develop God-consciousness, or Allah’s awareness.
When is Ramadan being celebrated in 2023?
Ramandan begins 10-12 days earlier each year as the Muslim Calendar Year is different than the traditional calendar year. In 2023, Ramandan will begin on the evening of Wednesday, March 22 and cease on the evening of Friday, Apr 21, 2023.
