During the summer, it can be so easy for the kids to fall out of their regular reading routine.   You are busy with BBQ, day trips, summer camp and vacation.  Spending time outside enjoying the nice weather while we have it is a top priority.  However you can bring the fun of reading with you wherever you go this summer.  Kobo wants to arm families with everything they need to make it easy and fun for them to keep reading all summer long.Summer reading fun with Kobo best books for kids

Here are 5 tips to help keep your kids reading during the summer:

  1. Let them choose: As parents we know so many great books, and things of interest that they can read, but part of the fun for kids is being able to pick their own books. This will help them to get excited about new stories by allowing them to explore different authors and genres. Sometimes they will judge the book solely by the cover, and that’s OK.
  2. Establish a routine: Set a time that will work for each day, and let that be reading time. Your kids will come to expect and look forward to this special activity and will look forward to your time together.  Maybe it is a couple of stories at bedtime. or reading by the water at the cottage.
  3. Set goals and rewards: Kids sometimes need a little extra motivation, so setting goals and handing out rewards for reaching those goals can really keep them focused on reaching reading milestones. Some reward ideas are purchasing the next installment in a beloved series or going to a live book event, they’ll be that much more excited to keep going.  Check your local library to see what exciting activities they have planned for the summer.
  4. Recap the story: Once you finish a book together, talk about it with them! Revisit the major events, pictures and themes, ask them questions, get them to tell you their favourite parts, and engage your child further by drawing parallels between the story and their life.
  5. Lead by example: Kids follow what we do, more than what we say. So if you want your kids to become passionate about reading, let them see you doing it. If you always have something to read on you, and are always opening a book, they’ll realize it’s a great way to pass the time, and will be more likely to give it a go!

Kobo has so many classic books available, and new ones as well! I really appreciate they have some of my childhood favourite books like Bernstein Bears and others that I can now share with my kids. I bet you will find your favourites, as well, to purchase and share with your kids.Summer reading fun with Kobo best books for kids

Summer reading fun with Kobo best books for kidsWhen we went to the cottage last weekend we brought our Kobo as it is compact and lightweight making it easy to have several books to read without packing up a big bag of books to take.  It wasn’t unusual to spot 3 Kobos down on the dock as we were not the only ones to bring our e-reader to the cottage to enjoy some reading and relaxation. And no matter if it is cloudy or the brightest sunny day with the Kobo Glo HD you have no issues with glare, and can get down to reading whenever you are ready.  ncludes: a Kobo Glo HD (Kobo’s newest eReading device), a Kobo Glo HD SleepCover, a $50 Kobo gift card and a cute plush toy

Enjoy your summer full of fun activities, but don’t forget to take some time to get your kids reading.  Because we all know that the school year will be here before we know it!
